The Lavender Circle

The Lavender Circle meets at the Ascension Church, Lavender Hill from 1pm to 4pm on three Wednesday afternoons of each month.

We are a self help, self financing group open to all members of our community, of all ages. One does not have to be a church member. At the moment there are about 20 of us that come on and off as they want to. A donation of £1 towards refreshments is appreciated.

Talk is about anything and everything, over cups of tea or coffee and biscuits, curing each others ills and putting the wrongs of the world to right. Occasionally culinary delights are shared, usually from the most recently acquired cake recipes.

At the beginning of each year ideas are put forward by the group, with the most popular being decided upon for the Diary of Events, these event normally occur on the third Wednesday of each month. These trips range from going to the seaside, theatre, meals, museums, etc. Great joy is experienced when trips that involve no expense at all are found. Reductions on trips and help with expenses are available when funds allow. Freedom passes or oyster cards are used where they can be. Some trips need to be booked and paid for in advance.

We welcome new people who would like to come and join us.

The Society of the Holy House of Our Lady of Walsingham

The Help of Christians Cell at The Ascension Lavender Hill

The main object of our Cell is to promote and increase devotion to Our Lady and to recognise Her role in the message of our salvation.

Every year we hold our Annual General Meeting on the 11th February. We begin with the Rosary followed by Our Lady of Lourdes Mass followed by the AGM of the Cell. This meeting is chaired by our Cell Superior and Priest Associate Father Iain Young and the Cell representatives, the Cell Secretary and Cell Treasurer are appointed.

We have a full Cell programme for the year which is discussed at the AGM. This includes the Principal Feasts of Our Lady as celebrated in the parish, social and fund raising events which includes an annual weekend parish pilgrimage to Walsingham.

The dates for the pilgrimage to Walsingham are published im our social calendar, which can be found on our What's On page. Places are booked from one year to the next as the Walsingham Shrine is very popular, one would not get a reservation if left until the current year, unless there was a cancellation. Accordingly advanced notice is required.

The modest minimum annual subscription for single membership and for married couples is published annually. This covers membership for both the Walsingham Shrine and our local Cell for which £4 is taken.

At the moment our membership is around 20 excluding Father Iain. We always welcome new members.
